Oscar is loving and ready to play! He’s also a wonderful cuddler. He definitely believes he’s a lap dog and will drape across you and look up adoringly at you with his big blue eyes. He loves to give big kisses on your face—and up your nose!

With people he knows, Oscar is affectionate and loyal. He is good with strangers he meets on walks and at the dog park. Oscar loves vegetables, especially frozen broccoli! He loves to sprawl on the grass outside and sunbathe.

Oscar needs to be the only pet in the house. However, at the dog park and at doggy day care, he loves playing with other dogs, especially ones who enjoy wrestling! He also enjoys meeting and playing with younger pups at the dog park—he’s very patient with them. Oscar is a medium energy dog, who loves both exercise and snoozing on the couch. He loves his walks, doggy day care and gets the best compliements.

Oscar does very well on a leash. Wearing a harness that clips in the front is best for him. He is not reactive to other dogs on his walks and explores his world with curiosity. He’s had some issues with car sickness in the past (heavy drooling on rides), but these have subsided after a few months. He loves to go on walks and play in the yard. He hasn’t had much experience with long car trips.

Oscar is food motivated and loves belly rubs! Treats are the way to his heart. Oscar loves to chew on bones and antlers, as well as rawhide. Tearing up a new squeaky toy is great fun, and he loves to prance around with the shreds in his mouth. He loves a frozen Kong full of yogurt, and bones with peanut butter smeared in them. And of course, he’ll always come running for cheese! He’s also enjoyed chasing a flirt pole in the backyard. He’ll chase a ball, but isn’t all that invested in bringing it back. He also loves to train—he can be very focused when this happens!

Oscar sleeps through the night—no need for potty breaks. He does well both in the bed with you (he’s a great cuddler on a cold night!) or in a crate with a comfy dog bed.

Oscar is house and crate-trained. He knows sit, stay, come, wait, and shake, as well as “come through” (walking through your legs to follow a treat) and “spin” (walking in a circle to follow a treat). He’s also been working on “up” and “off” (in terms of getting on/off the bed). When he gets over-excited, he can be told “self-regulate” or “get a toy,” and he’ll get a toy, which will help him settle down a little. He is a very smart and focused dog and would love someone who can take his training to the next level. He has some separation anxiety and has been known to tear up pillows if left alone too long, so crating him if you’ll be out of the house for more than 1-2 hours would be best.

Oscar is very friendly to people he meets on walks and at the dog park. In the home, he needs time to warm up to visitors. He is not a fan of postal workers or UPS/Amazon delivery people, and will definitely bark vigorously at them if they come up to his door. Oscar can be anxious with visitors coming to his house. Meeting them outside the home on a leash and walking in with them can be a good way to make introductions. He does warm up soon enough with treats, calmness, and patience. He can be overwhelmed by a lot of new people in the house at once. He can be cautious when entering new places. He is also anxious around visiting children and needs close supervision with them.

Oscar needs a home where he is the only pet, without kids. A home where he can get lots of exercise and attention would be best. He has been living in a home where his people are around a lot and not gone for long hours.

Oscar would be best suited in a fenced yard, rather than an apartment.

Oscar LOVES his people and bonds closely with them! He is absolutely overflowing with that beautiful kind of love that only a dog can give. His cuddles and contented sighs will melt your heart. Watching him run across a dog park with a bunch of pals is pure joy. His curious and bright nature will bring sunshine to your day.
