Karl’s Canine Krew is a 501c3 nonprofit, PACFA licensed, foster based rescue located primarily in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We bring animals that are awaiting euthanasia or struggling to find homes in shelters locally in Colorado as well as shelters out of state in New Mexico, Texas, and Kansas into our foster’s loving homes. All animals receive any necessary medical care, as well as a microchip before they find their fur-ever family! Our organization was founded in honor of Karl Knapp, a true animal lover, compassionate rescuer, and stellar friend. Today and everyday, we rescue in honor of Karl Knapp.

Today and every day, we rescue in honor of Karl Knapp.
Karl believed in showing up for those who needed a helping hand—or paw. A lifelong dog lover, Karl fostered countless pups, offered transport for rescues across the region, and supported multiple nonprofit organizations dedicated to saving animals in need. His heart for dogs was unmatched, and his reliability and commitment made him the person every rescue knew they could count on.
Born on Christmas Day in Gillette, Wyoming, Karl grew up with a love for both the outdoors and animals. His career as a United States Marine Corps officer took him all over the world, but no matter where he was stationed, he found ways to stay connected to rescue work—whether through fostering, volunteering at shelters, or personally transporting dogs to safety. His service instilled in him discipline, incredible work ethic, and unmatched loyalty, but it was his compassion that made him an unwavering advocate and friend to animals of every kind.
When Karl wasn’t fostering or transporting, he found joy in bowling leagues, teaching gun safety at the range, or simply spending time in the outdoors. But his greatest joy was always the dogs—the ones who needed a safe place to land, a ride to their forever home, or simply someone who believed in them.
Karl’s legacy lives on in every life saved. Every foster, every transport, every adoption carries a piece of the work he devoted himself to. We rescue today—and every day—because of him.
