WHEN YOU FOSTER WITH

KARL’S CANINE KREW…

You will be part of a group of people with a common goal of saving lives. Karl’s Canine Krew is a 501c3 non-profit, PACFA licensed animal rescue primarily located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. And we are 100% foster based! Meaning we rely on people in our community to open their homes and become foster families to animals from other local shelters in Colorado, as well as out-of-state shelters in New Mexico, Texas, and Kansas. We provide all the supplies, medical care, and help we can to you, and you provide a safe home where our animals can learn to be loved again. We are all in this together, and it takes all of us to save lives! At Karl’s Canine Krew, we work as a team to ensure that you have everything you need to help your foster animal flourish and find their forever home. FOSTER EXPECTATIONS &

THINGS TO KNOW

  • The length of time you may have a foster animal may vary. Be prepared to have any new animals in a safe space away from all other animals for the first 24 hours. After the first 24 hours, you will be expected to keep your foster animal for 5-7 days to learn about their personality, ensure they have all of their necessary medical care, and are prepared to find their forever family! After an animal is ready for adoption, the length of time before a foster animal will be adopted will depend on how long it takes to find their pur-fect family! On average, animals are in foster care for 3-6 weeks!

  • You will need to become an approved foster before you can officially foster with Karl’s Canine Krew. After your foster application has been approved by a Karl’s Canine Krew Foster Coordinator, you will be contacted to set up a home inspection. Home inspections help us ensure our animals will be in a safe and loving foster home.

  • Karl’s Canine Krew will provide you with food and supplies, and we provide the veterinary care for all animals. However, you will be required to transport your animal to and from vet appointments. You may also be required to transport your foster animal to and from adoption events.

  • You must adhere to PACFA rules and regulations at all times while fostering with Karl’s Canine Krew. These rules and regulations will be gone over during a new foster orientation. All fosters will be required to attend a new foster orientation upon approval to foster, and completion of a home inspection conducted by a Karl’s Canine Krew representative.

  • Karl’s Canine Krew asks our foster families to be somewhat “tech-savvy” as we do rely on Facebook groups, SignUp Genius, Google Docs, and various other websites and email to communicate with our foster families.

How long will I have a foster dog?

The length of time you’ll have a foster dog can vary depending on the dog’s needs and how quickly they find their forever home. On average, most foster placements last anywhere from 3-6 weeks. Some dogs may find homes quickly, while others, especially those needing extra care or training, may take a bit longer. At Karl’s Canine Krew, we work closely with you throughout the fostering process, providing support and resources to ensure both you and the dog have a positive experience.

I do not live in Colorado Springs. Can I foster for KCK?

No, you cannot foster for Karl’s Canine Krew if you do not live in Colorado Springs or the surrounding areas. Since we are a Colorado Springs-based rescue, our fosters need to be within a reasonable distance, of 60 miles, to access our veterinary partners, attend events, and pick up supplies. This ensures we can provide the necessary support and resources for both you and the foster dog. Yes, you can absolutely foster short-term with Karl’s Canine Krew! We understand that not everyone can commit to long-term fostering, so we offer flexible options to fit your schedule. Let us know your availability, and we’ll find a fostering opportunity that works for you!

Why do you do a home Inspection?

We conduct home inspections due to PACFA requirements to ensure the safety and well-being of the foster dogs in our care. The goal is not to judge your home but to confirm that it’s a secure and suitable environment for a rescue dog. During the inspection, we check for things like secure fencing (if applicable), potential hazards, and areas where the dog will eat, sleep, and play. It’s also a great opportunity for us to answer any questions you might have and provide tips to help you prepare for fostering. This step helps us set both you and the dog up for a successful and positive experience!

If you meet the age requirement and are ready to make a difference, we’d love to have you join our foster family!

Can I foster if i live in an apartment?

Yes, you can absolutely foster if you live in an apartment! At Karl’s Canine Krew, we believe that a loving and safe environment matters more than the size of your home. Many dogs thrive in apartments, especially those that are smaller or have lower energy levels. We’ll work with you to match you with a dog that suits your living situation and lifestyle. As long as your apartment allows pets and you can provide the care and attention the dog needs, you can make a huge difference in their life!
