Layla is a very loving dog, and a bit of a goof along with it (her big ears make her even more goofy). She loves cuddling with her humans and enjoys the company of other dogs. Shes very affectionate and will lick you and lick you some more. She can be shy sometimes when she’s around someone new but warms up right away. She likes to dig up weeds and eat them, play with balls, toys and sometimes still chew on something she shouldn’t but that’s far and in between. She does have a habit of jumping on you when coming home that we’ve had a hard time breaking. I think Layla would do best in a home with other dogs to play with. If she goes outside alone she whines and complains to come in but when the other dogs are out there with her she likes to be out there with them. She’s not aggressive with dogs at all, and just wants to play and play with them. However Layla lacks social cues from other dogs when they don’t want to play anymore but she eventually gets it. She has never been around a cat so I am unsure how she would do. She definitely has a high prey drive as she’s tried to go after bunnies while on a walk. Speaking of walks she does ok on a leash. She stops a lot and sometimes does pull when very excited. Layla needs a lot of exercise and a space where she has room to let some of this energy out,She’s very hyper. Once she is down for the day though she can stay cozy in the dog bed for hours and will sleep through the night. She likes to sleep in your bed with you, and if needed too she doesn’t mind sleeping in her kennel. She can be a bit stubborn about going to her room (crate) but once she’s in there she’s good to go. We’ve just recently started layla staying out of her kennel for short periods of time when we go on a quick errand. Typically when left alone we do crate her but she’s doing much better staying out and not getting into something she shouldn’t. She’s house trained, no issues there. Layla knows some basic commands as well. If you have a neighbor getting a new roof she will refuse to go out, she got completely freaked out a few months ago when this was going on and she was in a panic and she hasn’t been the biggest fan of new environments at times. A active household with other dogs would be great for Layla and she’s definitely not suitable for an apartment. She’ll do good if there are kids around but just be careful if there are tiny ones around because sometimes she can get goofy and forget that she’s big. She’s the most gentle loving dog with kids though, and with the adults in her life. One thing about Layla is that she will clear a 6 foot privacy fence with ease and room to go. This has been something we’ve been trying to work on that she just hasn’t gotten down. This is a more recent behavior within the last few months. Layla is a wonderful companion and will give you all the licks and love you could need. She will be your best buddy on a walk or run. Her goofiness is hilarious and if you’ve got snacks she’s all about it.
