Dodger is the epitome of "just a baby." His ideal family would include someone strong enough to carry him around in a baby bjorn so he can snuggle into your neck all day. Since he is still young pup, Dodge is working on his impulse control and learning appropriate play. Due to all of the changes he has experienced in his short life, he doesn't always know what he is supposed to do with new people/dogs. When he's excited he does tend to jump and/or nip, but responds well to correction and learns the rules pretty quickly.
Dodger enjoys playing with other large dogs after slow, intentional introductions. He has shown some resource guarding behaviors in new environments with new dogs (no issues with people). But once he settles in and realizes the dogs are his friends, he plays and shares really well. Because Dodger is not fully aware of his size/power it is not recommended that he go to a home with small dogs or young children.
Dodger walks fairly well on leash, occasionally he will pull towards a good smell but always comes back to your side for a treat. He is a sensitive boy still working on his confidence, so meeting strange people and dogs on trails can cause him stress. He's looking for someone patient and kind who will help him be brave and show him that the world is full of good times and fun walks.
He will follow you everywhere, not to be deterred by baby gates he can easily jump. Dodger is crate trained- he does well while his foster mom is gone for work and easily sleeps through the night. The first thing you will hear in the morning is his tail thumping when he hears you get up. Dodger will be 100% devoted to you if you show him the love he deserves. Because he is such a sensitive soul, Dodger will feed off of whatever energy you give. His ideal human exudes calm confidence to help him navigate his ever changing world.
Dodger LOVES to chew, so chew toys are a must for him. If not provided with something appropriate, he will find himself something to gnaw on. He is happiest with plenty of toys around to choose from. Dodger would do fine in a house or an apartment as long as his enrichment needs are met. He is a high energy pup, but his favorite place to be is wrapped in his humans arms. A few good walks or some zoomies in the yard and he's happy to curl up with you and chill.
Could you be the right fit to help Dodger grow in to a confident, adventure dog?
