Boudreaux is recommended for homes with kids over 12, or younger children who have demonstrated comfort with large dogs. Outside the home, he does well with other dogs, but he needs to be the only dog in his family.
Until living in his foster home, he was surrounded by other dogs and people in a loud shelter, and so he’s taken some time to get comfortable in a home by himself while his foster mom is gone for a couple hours at a time. While he has settled into that nicely in a matter of weeks, he may need a week or two in his new home to work up his courage while he comes to understand that he’s safe. Owners who work from home or can come home at lunch would be ideal for him. For the same reasons, he’s still working on feeling safe in a crate – viewing it as a retreat rather than a cage. He has bravely accepted treats from inside an open-door crate.
