Kalena

AGE: 2 Years
SEX: Female
BREED: Pitbull Mix

Meet Kalena, Kiki, Kiki- Marie, Keekers, or sometimes Sparkles.

Kiki is an adult pit mix who appears to have been irresponsibly bred and was reported to have been literally discarded- being thrown out of a moving truck. In spite of this rough start Kiki has flourished, learned so much and is just the biggest love who is eager to please her person.

Kiki is now spayed, potty, crate and muzzle trained. In her foster home Kiki has learned to trust humans and has fully embraced rules and family activities. Kiki has largely overcome her separation anxiety, and can be left uncrated for up to 3 hours ( maybe more).

Kiki is not fond of cats, though she respects the leave it command when she sees one on her walks. Her leash skills are progressing nicely, she rides well in the car - always secured in a seat belt, will sleep well and for long stretches at a time in her crate, and interacts well with older children. There is not a person Kiki does not like, but sometimes her energy level can get a bit high so children under 10 are not recommended- though she’s been tested with children as young as 5. Anyone steady on their feet and able to advocate for the following of rules is bound to enjoy this intelligent girl who really tries to please.

Kiki goes to agility training on average once a week, and obedience training weekly and has learned enough commands to soon test for her trick dog title. Things unknown or developing with Kiki. Kiki does not bark or ring a bell to go outside- she will hold it forever. To avoid Kiki having bladder or bowel issues her foster mom lets her outside on a schedule.

Kiki is still learning impulse control, and still learning to play with other dogs- and it is recommended that she be a only dog for now- though she’s shows signs of wanting to be “friends”- but introductions should be made carefully. Kiki shows absolutely no signs of resource guarding, is starting to recall nicely in a controlled environment and loves cuddling with her foster mom and has learned to give the nicest kisses.

Kiki thrives on structure and learning and if you like a smart girl who loves to learn and cuddle at the end of a training session- Kiki would love to meet you. If your yard has a 6 foot fence Kiki is perfectly happy hanging out in the yard- she really enjoys gardening with her foster mom. Kiki does not yet go to adoption events, but her foster mom would love to bring her to meet you someplace not as hectic as the adoption events can be.
